Music Publishing and Recording

I have represented all of the music industry players, including songwriters, recording artists, record producers, and record labels in the negotiation of various music industry agreements. These services include a wide array of matters, such as:
  • Copyright protection and licensing of music compositions

  • Recording and distribution of the master recordings of songs

  • The performances of music by recording artists

My representation has included, among other things, preparing and negotiating:
  • Music publishing agreements

  • Mechanical and synchronization licenses

  • Recording and multiple rights agreements with recording artists

  • Songwriter agreements and splits

  • Band agreements between musical artists, including entity formation and governance documents, as well as splits between members

  • Record producer agreements, including shopping arrangements

  • Master use agreements for sound recordings

  • Public performance agreements and registration with performing rights organizations, as well as sound exchange registration

  • Remixing agreements

  • Sampling agreements and licenses

  • Video production agreements

  • Artist performance and concert agreements

I also have represented music apps seeking the rights to use recorded songs in their product offerings.

In addition to these specific agreements, I also represent recording artists and the professionals who work with them in the preparation and negotiation of contractual business arrangements that are generally applicable in connection with the representation of artists. These are described in greater detail at Agreements with Artists and Advisors.
